Madekwe was raised in an ethnically diverse family. Her father is Nigerian Swiss as is her mom who's English. She was born and lived in a housing estate run by the council located south of London. At the age 14, she attended The Brit School. She earned her BA in acting at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. While at school she appeared in numerous stage plays, including King Henry V's Princess Katherine or Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe began her acting career through the film Storm Damage. In the years since, Madekwe has appeared in Teachers as well as Doctors. Madekwe scored her first motion picture role in the Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. Her success has led her to be cast in Elisha in a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot, then appear in the six-episode series Trexx and Flipside in the role of Ollie. In 2008, she was cast as Bambi as the main character in the ITV2 drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe was also the lead character in How to lose friends & make people feel alienated and be apathetic, which premiered on Sony Pictures Entertainment back in the year 2008. The credits she has in her theatre work include Little Sweet Thing by Roy Williams as well as Flight Path by David Watson.
Madekwe had her official US debut on the drama series The Beautiful Life, which just aired two episodes for The CW before being cancelled. Ashley Davenport was her role in the ABC drama Revenge. Ashley Leggat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, into an extended family of. Her parents, Roy and Patty along with her four brothers, Brett, Todd, and Bram, were all present.
